According to national regulations and European norms emergency exits must not be locked from the inside. In case of danger, everyone has to be able to leave the building through the emergency exits as quickly as possible. This principle causes major security concerns for building operators as the emergency exits are frequently abused for different purposes.
Emergency exit alarms help to reduce this concern. They allow to get quickly out of the building while creating an effective deterrent against the possible abuse.
The most economic and easiest way to secure an emergency exit is a GfS DEXCON. The round red housing with the fluorescent picto „STOP“ sends a strong message to those who want to abuse an emergency exit. It is a visually effective deterrent, which is supported by an accoustic alarm of 95 dB/1 m.
Its intelligent product design makes it possible that the GfS DEXCON can secure emergency exits without any additional accesssory. It always works. It has just to be mounted on the door leaf (or wall) while the magnet is positioned next to it.
Multiple functions make it possible to customize the product according to the specific building environment. Among other it is possible to have an automatic alarm switch off after 30 or 180 sec., noise levels of 75dB for small rooms and 95dB for bigger rooms are available. Of course the GfS DEXCON operates also with mains supply. Access control systems may be connected in order to allow a passage in oposite direction.
To increase the deterrent a visual link between the alarm device and the fittings helps a lot. Therefore GfS has created three other versions based on the GfS DEXCON – the GfS DEXCON for panic bars, the GfS DEXCON for push bars and the GfS DEXCON for multipoint locks. While most of the features are identical, the GfS DEXCON for panic bars and for push bars also integrate a pre-alarm.
