Exterior HDF Door System
Systems for fibre board doors
Sherwin-Williams now has a portfolio of products especially designed for Exterior doors made from fibreboard. The new sealers, primers and topcoats can be combined to match a wide range of demands producing superb surfaces with exceptional physical and chemical properties.
The system starts with a choice of primer – either waterbased or SB PU. Both are developed for door production to provide a hard and very smooth appearance, ensuring a first coat that is the perfect base for coming layers. Primers can be applied in one or two layers depending on final demands.
Waterbased primer ED1450:
•Maximises production speeds through fast drying.
•Minimises the need for sanding due to excellent flow (even thoughit is easily performed with this primer).
•Overcomes the fibre swelling normally seen with waterbasedsystems on HDF fibreboards. The surface is exceptional for thisaspect however depending on demand fibre raising is of courseeliminated by the use of solvent based products.
Solvent based PU primer TF1814:
•Eliminates fibre swell.
•Optimised drying properties but still maintaining a long pot-lifefor ease of production.
An alternative low VOC solution to eliminate fibre swell is to seal the surface with 100% UV by roller coat application before the first layer of primer. UV sealer UL1305:
•Eliminates fibre swell in combination with water primer ED1450.
•Increases production speed compared to a two primer System.
Topcoat options are conventional WB, WB UV or WB PU all providing excellent build and toughness together with outdoor durability for many years.
Waterbased topcoat EG1515:
•Excellent levelling producing a surface like a solvent borne system:
•Long lasting due to the high toughness.
Waterbased UV topcoat WH1571:
•Recommended as the fastest production process.
•Maximises scratch and chemical resistance.
Waterbased PU topcoat EH1581:
•Very tough system.•Direct adhesion to a wide range of plastics so can be used for door-set components.•Possible as one layer finish.•Excellent chemical and physical performance.
These system combinations will last for very long time due to consistent flexibility in combination with the toughness of the paint film.
•Waterborne and UV options to reduce VOC emissions.
•Easy handling due to excellent scratch resistance.
•Long service life due to very good exterior durability.
•Flexible product portfolio to meet production and aesthetic demands.
•All colours available through WB tinting System.
